Actelis’ Dynamic Rate Boost (DRB) consists of a set of advanced algorithms that complement dynamic crosstalk cancellation techniques to further optimize transmission over multiple copper pairs. DRB enables carriers and enterprises to achieve significantly enhanced performance compared to other EFM over Copper solutions in real-world environments.

The combination of Actelis’ high density aggregation platforms, DRB technology and the ability to support higher rates of up to 15 Mbps per copper pair using G.SHDSL enable network operators to easily and economically expand Ethernet services and transport within their network, creating opportunities for new revenues while lowering OpEx and CapEx. Actelis’ patented DRB algorithms are embedded and supported by all Actelis ML series solutions.

Why is DRB Important? DRB Advantages

Actelis’ DRB offers the following main benefits that directly translate into more revenues and/or lower TCO for service providers, enterprises, and government network providers

  • Greater coverage – Reach more customers efficiently
  • More Bandwidth – Enable expanded service offerings, high service levels and future growth
  • Less Pairs - Increased performance allows you to offer more with less, reducing both OpEx and CapEx
  • Higher Resiliency – Higher SNR provides insulation from changing noise environment
  • Flexible Choices in Performance – The ability to “dial in” tradeoffs in bit rate and immunity to spectral interference

What is DRB?

Actelis DRB algorithms focus on optimizing link performance at layer one. Complementing Actelis’ EFMplus™ algorithms, DRB offers carriers advanced “equipment-level” Dynamic Spectral Management (DSM) that addresses the main copper performance inhibitor:  “cross talk.”DRB performance (example)

Utilizing DRB technology, Actelis platforms can effectively identify and cancel the crosstalk interference between modems. While some rudimentary cross talk cancellation functionality is provided by the modem itself, Actelis significantly enhances this functionality by using additional hardware and software that employs patented algorithms and techniques to maximize the performance benefits provided by cross talk cancellation; i.e., greater distance capabilities, higher bandwidth rate and greater Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR).

Actelis’ DRB results in tangible performance improvements under a wide variety of operational conditions, even in environments where spectral deployment rules limit the potential for higher bit rates. The SNR increase, resulting from DRB and the higher modulation constellations supported by Actelis solutions enable more efficient frequency utilization and reduced power transmission.

The service operator gains the option to “dial in” user-selectable tradeoffs between achieving higher bitrates and further reducing spectral interference so that links can be optimized for the desired performance.

DRB is a system wide functionality that is enabled per chassis, across all pairs; all modem (MLU) cards, all bonded link (HSLs) and all rates and constellations. As cross talk is created at both ends of the link, DRB is supported and performed at the aggregation/CO side as well as at the EAD/CPE. The enhanced performance achieved through DRB (as with EFMplus™) is fully in accordance with regional spectral regulations.
