FREMONT, Calif., April 23, 2013—Actelis Networks, the leading provider of high performance, scalable, and cost efficient broadband over copper solutions, has been selected by TurkNet as its supplier of Ethernet in the First Mile over copper infrastructure. TurkNet will use the Actelis ML2300 and ML230 central office aggregation switches and ML600 series of Ethernet access devices to offer its Metro Ethernet services, taking 100s of Mbps of bandwidth to enterprise customers over copper. Actelis’ valued partner Elkotek, the leading value added distribution company in Turkey and an experienced integrator, will integrate the solution.

Demand for Carrier Ethernet services is rapidly escalating among customers of all sizes now as small and medium enterprise customers are also discovering the strategic value of enhancing communication with their suppliers, partners, and customers. These customers are also demanding services such as TurkNet’s Metro Ethernet as they leverage the Cloud to access applications, services, and the kind of IT expertise and economies of scale once available only to large enterprises. Increasing reliance on the network means enterprise customers today need more than bandwidth. They also need quick and easy scalability, and expect high performance, rock solid reliability, the efficiency of native transport, competitive service pricing, and the assurance of service level agreements.

TurkNet chose Actelis to meet and exceed all these expectations at many more enterprise customers in more locations, because Actelis offered the most densely scalable and efficient solution for the profitable mass deployment of its Metro Ethernet services using EFM over Copper. Actelis’ superior Layer 1 transmission capabilities give TurkNet the ability to reach more buildings and offer a greater number of customers more bandwidth much more cost effectively than it could with fiber alone.

“Actelis’s very strong Layer 1 performance and Layer 2 capabilities complement TurkNet’s major investment in unbundled exchanges, resulting in a more cost effective way to reach many more enterprise customers with high performance, reliable bandwidth and a full suite of competitive Metro Ethernet services” commented Cem Çelebiler, General Manager of TurkNet. “The performance, reliability, and economics of this solution plus the close collaboration between Actelis and Elkotek have contributed significantly to TurkNet’s success, and were key factors in our selection process.”

Reaching enterprise customers located beyond the fiber footprint with Ethernet services is an important revenue source for service operators. But reaching those customers quickly and cost effectively can be a real challenge. This is particularly true for small and medium enterprises. As a , class, they represent huge aggregate demand, but individually, they are typically located in modestly sized office  buildings that are widely distributed throughout the metro. This simply does not present the kind of concentrated demand needed to cost justify running fiber to their buildings. But these customers’ requirements can no longer be satisfied cost effectively over TDM or standard DSL solutions. A better solution is required.

“Actelis’ advanced copper transmission technologies helped us turn the existing copper cable plant into a strategic asset and the right solution for TurkNet” according to Abdullah Safi, executive director of Elkotek. “With Actelis, Elkotek was able to provide TurkNet with a carrier-class broadband solution that could be rolled out much more quickly and cost effectively than with fiber alone. As a result, TurkNet reaches more customers, gets lower initial investment, achieves faster time to market, offers all the bandwidth and performance they need, and has the ability to create highly competitive Metro Ethernet services that yield a far better return on investment.”

The Actelis solution allows TurkNet to use fewer pairs than do competing EFM over Copper solutions. That reduces OpEx and cuts CapEx by reducing CO port requirements and by allowing more cost effective Ethernet access devices to be used. The full suite of Actelis’ Layer 2 features also give TurkNet flexible service creation capabilities and streamlined operations to provide the kind of high reliability, performance, scalability, and cost competitiveness TurkNet insists on offering its customers.

“Actelis is very pleased to partner with Elkotek to enable TurkNet to satisfy more enterprise customer needs for high speed, high performance Carrier Ethernet services,” said Tuvia Barlev, Executive Chairman and President of Actelis. “Leveraging our advanced standards-based innovations in copper transmission technology, Ethernet expertise, and extensive global experience to enable service operators to build new broadband revenue streams more profitably is what Actelis is all about.”
