Actelis Networks Releases the Industry's Most Advanced Carrier Ethernet Switching Software
Actelis' "5.0-Advanced" Software Provides Enhanced Service Delivery, Operational Support and Copper Diagnostic Capabilities
COMPTEL, Orlando FL, October 9, 2006 – Actelis Networks®, the leading provider of Carrier Ethernet over Copper™ networking solutions, today announced the commercial availability of its innovative new Ethernet switching software, 5.0-Advanced. The release dramatically enhances the service delivery, operational support and copper diagnostic capabilities of Actelis' Carrier Ethernet over Copper solutions and will be included on all new product shipments. 5.0-Advanced is also available as an upgrade to existing hardware.
The new software includes a comprehensive set of capabilities including Ethernet advanced service delivery features based upon the industry's most sophisticated Quality of Service and Bandwidth Control features. The software also offers a suite of EFM Operations Administration and Maintenance (OAM) capabilities and supports new hardware including the XR239 EFM repeater and Metallic Loop Test (MLT) interfaces in the CO chassis that enable Actelis' equipment to integrate even more easily with existing copper infrastructure.
"The 5.0-Advanced software is setting a new standard for Carrier Ethernet switching," said Mehmet Balos, President for the Americas and Chief Marketing Officer, Actelis. "The enhanced service delivery, operational support and copper diagnostic interfaces, supported by the Actelis' platforms, allow service providers to cost-effectively deploy an easy-to-manage system that can seamlessly integrate with existing copper infrastructure. This unique combination of the most comprehensive Carrier Ethernet service delivery features and the most effective operational and deployment tools are proof of Actelis' commitment to accelerating the adoption of Carrier Ethernet."
Actelis' 5.0-Advanced software features a number of enhancements and additional features that address three critical areas of the five attributes of Carrier Ethernet: Quality of Service, Service Management, and Carrier Class Reliability. It also includes Ethernet in the First Mile OAM functionality, a feature designed to enable remote diagnosis and troubleshooting, eliminating costly "truck-rolls" required to dispatch service technicians to remote customer locations in response to service calls.
The new software release also supports a number of new Carrier Ethernet over Copper hardware components including the XR239 repeater, the industry's only Ethernet in the First Mile repeater, which was unveiled at Globalcomm last June. It also supports a suite of business applications such as inter-office VPN connectivity; both Voice over IP and traditional TDM-based telephony services; and gives carriers the ideal platform for delivering a wide variety of next generation telecom services to their subscribers.
The "5.0-Advanced" software adds the ability to create bandwidth profiles at the CPE and enforce them on the 2Base-TL EFM uplink, enabling the most effective use of the available bandwidth in the access network. The software enables service providers to apply sophisticated Quality of Service (QoS) policies at the CPE that enable prioritization and expedited delivery of mission critical and delay sensitive services to support a variety of next generation business applications. Actelis is the only Carrier Ethernet over Copper, solution to provide carriers with the ability to create bandwidth profiles and QoS policies at the customer edge of the network, in the CPE, where they are most effective.
To support the increased operational requirements of the rapidly growing deployments of Actelis' Carrier Ethernet over Copper solutions world-wide, the "5.0-Advanced" software also contains state of the art Ethernet in the First Mile OAM functionality. These features are designed to enable remote diagnosis and troubleshooting, and eliminate most of the costly "truck-rolls" required to dispatch service technicians to remote customer locations to remedy service trouble calls. These robust OAM features were recently showcased in the Carrier Ethernet interoperability demonstration at the recent Carrier Ethernet World Congress in Madrid. Again this year, Actelis was the only Ethernet over Copper solution provider to participate in the event, proof of the company's commitment to industry standards and interoperability.
A number of new Carrier Ethernet over Copper hardware components are also supported by the 5.0-Advanced software release, including the XR239, the industry's only Ethernet in the First Mile repeater, which was unveiled at Globalcomm last June. Additionally the software supports an enhanced Central Office chassis with Metallic Loop Test interfaces that facilitate testing and troubleshooting of the copper plant, making it even easier to integrate Actelis equipment into the existing copper infrastructure.
Together the features of Actelis' "5.0-Advanced" software, along with the new hardware it supports, represent a significant advancement of the state of the art for Carrier Ethernet over Copper switching. The release is a testament to the company's unyielding commitment to market leadership through relentless innovation and unparalleled commitment to its customers. The software will have the direct effect of accelerating the adoption of Carrier Ethernet through the release of advanced capabilities for service delivery, operational support and hardware designed specifically to facilitate the integration of Carrier Ethernet equipment into the existing copper access network.
Actelis' solutions combines the industry's best-performing EFMplus™ Ethernet in the First Mile copper transmission capability with standards-compliant and Metro Ethernet Forum Certified, Carrier Ethernet switching in the most advanced service delivery platform available for delivering Carrier Ethernet over existing voice grade copper infrastructure. The 5.0-Advanced software represents significant new capabilities for Carrier Ethernet service delivery over Copper along with advanced management and operational tools to support the growing number of carrier projects.
