Actelis and Bergen Op Zoom Municipality Bring Ultra High Speed Digital Access to Distinguished Music Institute in The Netherlands
Music and dance move with the speed of broadband
The Netherlands, March 15, 2005 - Music and dance move with the speed of broadband in Bergen op Zoom (the Netherlands) powered by Actelis Networks®. Actelis products have enabled Centrum voor de Kunsten, center for the arts, to expand and accelerate its network throughout the historic facility. Actelis Networks, a worldwide leader delivering broadband over copper solutions, in partnership with Q&I an innovative network integrator and the municipality of Bergen op Zoom, has provided a powerful solution for the delivery of premium Ethernet services over the existing copper infrastructure.
"The music school wanted to revitalize and extend their existing network," said Peter Groeneveld, chief executive officer of Q&I. "They required a cost-effective solution that allowed teachers, staff, and students high-speed access to all of their applications over a nineteenth century facility. The municipality wanted a solution that delivered high-quality IT services and was trouble free."
Bergen op Zoom provides services throughout the municipality that includes many historic buildings. It has over 600 employees with most located in the city center. The Centrum voor de Kunsten, esteemed center for music, dance, and theatre, is located in the landmark building that once housed offices of the town mayor. The musicshool has an additional building behind the main one that is home to other creative disciplines.
"We considered several solutions for the musicschool, such as leased lines over fiber, xDSL, ISDN, and wireless," said Winfried Tiemessen, senior IT manager for Bergen op Zoom. "We found them to be too slow, too expensive, or totally impractical. We needed to find a technology that would provide superior digital services over our existing copper lines. Q&I supplied the perfect answer with the products from Actelis Networks."
The Actelis system was installed within a single day and delivered 10 Mbps of Ethernet traffic over a distance of 800 meters using only two active copper pairs without any interference or cross talk to other signals on the copper cable. "The system is affordable, the installation time is very short, and the speed per pair is excellent. We are see excellent response times in the network and the applications are running without any problems. The musicshool is very happy," said Mr. Tiemessen.
"Our partners, Q&I and Bergen Op Zoom, did an outstanding job of weighing the creative requirements of the customer and recommending the best quality solution at the best price," said George Lasry, general manager EMEA for Actelis Networks. "The Actelis system will easily scale as the requirements of the musicschool continues to grow. Actelis' bandwidth performance and quality metrics provide a future proof solutiion that will keep pace with the exciting new world of content and creation software emerging for state of the art multimedia networks."
