Actelis Unveils The Industry’s First
Ethernet in the First Mile Repeater

Line Powered Repeater Seamlessly Extends the Reach of Carrier Ethernet with Existing T1 copper Cable and Repeater Infrastructure to Deliver a 10 fold Increase in Bandwidth

GlobalComm, Chicago, Illinois, June 5, 2006 - Actelis Networks®, the leading provider of Carrier Ethernet over Copper™ networking equipment, today unveiled the industry's first Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) repeater. The Actelis XR239 EFM Repeater dramatically increases the reach of Carrier Ethernet over existing copper and T1 repeater (239 enclosure) facilities to deliver Ethernet bandwidth over the same facilities that previously could provide only 1.5Mbps T1 services.

"The Actelis XR239 Repeater represents a major innovation for Carrier Ethernet Access," said Michael Kennedy Ph.D., Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Network Strategy Partners, LLC. "The XR239 is designed to seamlessly convert existing T1 access lines to Ethernet using the existing copper infrastructure and repeater facilities. By providing a 10-fold increase in bandwidth without changing the existing copper infrastructure, this unique product can significantly accelerate the migration from T1 lines to Ethernet in the access network."

The spectrally compliant repeater is a significant addition to Actelis' Carrier Ethernet over Copper product line. Actelis' platforms, based on the innovative EFMplus™ technology, are the only solutions in the market that deliver the performance, resiliency and simplicity that carriers need for consistent Ethernet services over both copper and fiber media.

"Actelis Networks transforms existing and under-utilized copper infrastructures into robust, high-speed Ethernet networks, empowering carriers and enterprises to deliver and receive huge cost benefits and performance enhancements," said Mehmet Balos, President of Americas and Chief Marketing Officer of Actelis Networks. "With the addition of the first Ethernet in the First Mile repeater, Actelis offers carriers extended reach and flexibility to enable them to deliver Ethernet services to the vast majority of customers within their Carrier Serving Area (CSA)."

The Actelis XR239 extends the performance of the innovative Actelis EFMplus Ethernet in the First Mile copper transmission capabilities, augmenting the reach of links between Actelis' award-winning portfolio of Carrier Ethernet products, the ML130/1300, ML600 and ML50 Ethernet Access Devices.

"Actelis Carrier Ethernet product portfolio combines MEF Certified advanced switching capabilities with the best EFM copper transmission technology," added Mr. Balos. "Actelis helps carriers provide full coverage of their customer base using their existing copper network to provide a fiber-like end user experience."

The XR239 EFM Repeater is compact, cost-effective and conforms to all spectral, safety and specifications for deployment in public networks. It can be seamlessly integrated into the existing copper access network, as it supports the same mechanical enclosure and wiring as existing T1 repeaters. The XR239 is environmentally hardened and is certified for use in outside plant or within a CO.

Deploying just two EFM repeaters in a link, extends the reach of Carrier Ethernet Services to 18kft, providing coverage for over 80% of North American loops. But up to eight XR239 EFM Repeaters can be used on a single link providing a maximum reach of over 25 miles. The XR239 EFM Repeaters are line powered from either end of the link and require no additional electrical or environmental support, enabling them to be deployed wherever they are needed to boost the EFM signal and increase performance.

Actelis Carrier Ethernet over Copper products are available through the company's distribution network around the world and will be demonstrated at GlobalComm in Chicago, Illinois, June 5-7 in booth 63074.
