Frontier Communications Selects Actelis Networks to Accelerate Ethernet Broadband Services Across "New Frontier"
LAS VEGAS, March 21, 2011 - Actelis Networks®, the leading global supplier of Ethernet over copper solutions that is accelerating everything for service providers, today announced at COMPTEL (Actelis in Booth 522) that Frontier Communications Corporation (NYSE: FTR) has selected Actelis to provide Ethernet solutions that will accelerate broadband deployments across its entire footprint, including the 13 new territories acquired from Verizon Communications. Expanding on its long-standing relationship with Actelis, Frontier will use the company’s Ethernet solutions to deliver advanced business-class Ethernet services to enterprise customers, as well as backhaul high-speed DSL services to residential customers who have been out of reach until now.
From existing customers to new buildouts, Frontier will backhaul its growing DSL traffic from remote DSLAMs using Actelis’ Ethernet access products, which provide the greatest broadband rates, reach and reliability, so it can accelerate delivery of a wider breadth of DSL services. Frontier will deploy Actelis’ Ethernet access devices, central office aggregation systems and spectrally friendly ANSI T1.417-compliant EFM repeaters, enabling the Stamford, Conn.-based ILEC to deliver reliable, high-bandwidth services at tens of thousands of feet from their central offices and remote terminals.
“This is an exciting time for Frontier Communications and our valued business and residential customers as we embark on a ‘New Frontier’ that will deliver more advanced voice, data and video services across existing and new markets,” said Michael Golob, senior vice president of engineering and technology at Frontier. “As one of the nation’s largest local exchange carriers, Frontier believes that Actelis’ portfolio of standards-based Ethernet solutions and multivendor DSLAM backhaul solutions will help the New Frontier accelerate our wide-scale deployment of significantly higher broadband rates with greater coverage area and reliability.”
Known as the ‘Conversation Company,’ Frontier is providing customers—even in its most rural markets—access to reliable digital phone service, fast broadband, great video, and the best value on quality communication services. Actelis’ Ethernet products provide the best solutions to help Frontier close the digital divide between rural and densely populated urban areas by providing reliable, high-speed services across its newly expanded footprint and reaching customers who did not have access to high-speed broadband services.
As Frontier continues to accelerate its roll out of next-generation DSL services to hundreds of thousands of new customers—known as the ‘Faces of a New Frontier’—Actelis’ DSLAM backhaul solutions and repeaters will play a critical part. Actelis’ DSLAM backhaul solution is vital for Carrier Ethernet data services and enterprises looking to replace legacy T1 lines, since only Actelis’ Ethernet solutions can leverage the existing network infrastructure to deliver a 10- to 20-fold increase in bandwidth with dramatically increased reliability and reach.
“Legacy T1 circuits were never designed to meet the bandwidth requirements being imposed by new applications and cloud-based services today,” said Joe Manuele, executive vice president of worldwide sales and customer service at Actelis. “By leveraging Actelis’ innovative and patented DRB technology with our industry-leading EFM repeaters, Frontier can deliver dramatically more bandwidth to more customers than previously thought possible. And unlike alternative solutions, Actelis’ continued innovation in Ethernet-based technology will boost the bandwidth provided by Ethernet, protecting Frontier’s investment and providing the means to meet evolving bandwidth requirements.”
