G.SHDSL and VDSL Joining Forces for Wider, Faster and Further EoC service delivery
Advanced Copper technologies such Ethernet over bonded G.SHDSL or bonded VDSL enable carriers today to create significantly more revenues immediately. Ethernet over bonded copper solutions offer higher bandwidth, scalable and reliable carrier class services, extended coverage and more customers.
Carrier are effectively using both Ethernet over bonded G.SHDSL and Ethernet over bonded VDSL2 (or ADSL2+/ADSL2/ADSL) to offer higher-end Ethernet services and fast transport solutions.
Why does a carrier need both VDSL2 and G.SHDSL Technologies?
Bonded Solutions over VDSL2 and G.SHDSL are not competing with each other but rather complementing each other as can be seen from the table below. Allowing carriers to extract the most of their copper and expand the opportunities for new revenues by choosing the right solution per scenario requirement.
For example if a customer is located at a short distance from the CO/Cabinet and has limited access to copper pairs – VDSL can offer a much higher throughput over a lower number of pairs than G.SHDSL, but if the customer is located far from the CO and is looking for a symmetric service than G.SHDSL would the more effective transport technology.
The combination of these two technologies enables carriers to reach more customers, connect more buildings, small cell and WiFi locations cost effectively to gain additional revenues.
